Autologous irradiated tumor cell vaccine is a personalized cancer immunotherapy approach. It involves harvesting a patient's own tumor cells, which are then cultured and irradiated to render them non-proliferative while preserving their antigenic profile. These cells are subsequently administered back to the patient, often in combination with immunostimulatory adjuvants like Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) or granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). The goal is to prime the patient's immune system, particularly dendritic cells and T cells, to recognize and eliminate residual or metastatic tumor cells that express the same broad spectrum of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) found in the vaccine.
