Overview

Autologous islet organoids are a cell therapy product composed of insulin-producing pancreatic islet cells derived from a patient's own tissue and expanded *in vitro* into functional, three-dimensional organoid structures. This therapeutic approach is specifically designed to treat pancreatogenic (Type 3c) diabetes in patients undergoing total or partial pancreatectomy due to conditions like chronic pancreatitis or benign tumors. Unlike traditional autologous islet transplantation, which is often limited by the quantity of viable islets isolated from a diseased pancreas, this method utilizes *in vitro* expansion technology to increase the islet mass and potency before re-implantation. These organoids are designed to mimic the native microenvironment and cellular architecture of the pancreas, thereby improving the survival and functional insulin secretion of the transplanted cells to achieve better glycemic control.
