Overview

Autologous lung tumor-associated antigen vaccine is a personalized cancer immunotherapy developed for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and malignant mesothelioma. The therapeutic approach involves the isolation of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) from a patient's own surgically removed tumor tissue. These patient-specific antigens are then combined with an adjuvant, most notably DetoxPC—a mixture of monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) and Mycobacterium phlei cell wall skeleton—to enhance the immune response. Administered intradermally, the vaccine is designed to prime and activate T-lymphocytes to recognize and attack residual malignant cells expressing the targeted TAAs. Although early clinical trials demonstrated the vaccine's safety and ability to induce delayed-type hypersensitivity responses, it failed to demonstrate significant clinical benefit in advanced-stage patients, leading to the discontinuation of its clinical development.
