Overview

Autologous lymphocyte stem cells refer to an investigational cell therapy approach developed by the Washington University School of Medicine to mitigate treatment-induced lymphopenia in patients with newly diagnosed high-grade glioma. The procedure involves harvesting a patient's own hematopoietic stem cells (specifically those capable of reconstituting the lymphocyte population) prior to the initiation of standard-of-care chemoradiation, which typically includes radiation therapy and temozolomide. Following the completion of these immunosuppressive treatments, the harvested cells are reinfused into the patient. The primary therapeutic goal is to restore absolute lymphocyte counts, thereby potentially reversing the profound lymphopenia often associated with the Stupp protocol and improving the patient's overall immune competence and clinical prognosis.
