Autologous melanoma lysates are a personalized cancer immunotherapy consisting of the processed cellular contents of a patient's own tumor. The production process involves surgically removing melanoma tissue, isolating the tumor cells, and subjecting them to lysis—typically through repeated freeze-thaw cycles or irradiation—to release a comprehensive array of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) and patient-specific neoantigens. When administered back to the patient, usually in combination with an adjuvant like BCG or GM-CSF, or pulsed onto dendritic cells, these lysates serve to prime the immune system to recognize the unique antigenic profile of the malignancy. This approach is designed to induce a robust, polyclonal T-cell response capable of targeting the heterogeneous cell populations within a melanoma tumor, potentially reducing the risk of recurrence in the adjuvant setting or treating metastatic disease.
