Autologous menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MenSCs) is an experimental cell therapy developed by the Avicenna Research Institute for the treatment of poor ovarian response (POR) in women undergoing fertility treatments. The therapy involves the isolation of mesenchymal stromal cells from the patient's own menstrual blood, which are then cultured, expanded in vitro, and administered via bilateral intraovarian injection under ultrasound guidance. The mechanism of action is believed to involve the regeneration of ovarian tissue and restoration of function through the cells' differentiation potential and the secretion of paracrine factors. Clinical studies, including a Phase III trial in Iran, have demonstrated improvements in ovarian reserve markers such as anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels and antral follicle count (AFC), as well as increased pregnancy rates in patients who previously failed to respond to conventional stimulation protocols.
