Overview

Autologous menstrual blood stem cells (MenSCs) are a type of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) harvested from a patient's own menstrual blood. These cells are characterized by their high proliferative capacity, low immunogenicity, and multi-lineage differentiation potential, including the ability to differentiate into endometrial-like cells. In clinical applications, particularly for the treatment of infertility caused by moderate to severe intrauterine adhesions (Asherman's syndrome), MenSCs are typically delivered via intrauterine perfusion. They function primarily through paracrine mechanisms, secreting various growth factors and cytokines such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) that promote angiogenesis, reduce fibrotic scarring, and modulate the local immune environment to support endometrial regeneration and tissue repair.
