Overview

This investigational cell-based biologic therapy consists of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Developed by Dr. Albert Saiz and researchers at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and IDIBAPS, the treatment involves the ex vivo expansion of a patient's own MSCs followed by intravenous administration. The therapy is designed to leverage the immunomodulatory and neuroprotective properties of stem cells to treat patients with active relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis who have not responded to standard treatments. Clinical results from Phase II trials indicate that the cells may modulate T and B cell populations, potentially reducing the cumulative number of gadolinium-enhancing lesions on MRI.
