Autologous microsized adipose tissue is a cell-based biologic therapy developed by Syntr Health Technologies for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own adipose tissue and processing it using the proprietary, FDA-cleared SyntrFuge System. This system microsizes the fat tissue while preserving the cellular structure and viability of the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), which contains mesenchymal stem cells, pericytes, and other regenerative cells. The processed tissue is then reinjected into the affected knee joint via intra-articular injection. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the provision of a biological scaffold and the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors that promote tissue repair and modulate the joint environment to alleviate pain and improve function. It is currently being studied in a multi-center randomized controlled trial against standard-of-care corticosteroid injections.
