Overview

Autologous monocytes are a form of cell therapy in which monocytes, a type of white blood cell, are collected from an individual and then re-administered to the same person. Monocytes play key roles in the innate immune system, including phagocytosis, antigen presentation, cytokine secretion, and differentiation into macrophages or dendritic cells. In therapeutic contexts, autologous monocytes may be used directly or as precursors for more specialized cellular therapies (such as dendritic cell vaccines).
