Overview

Autologous MUC1-activated T-cells are a form of adoptive cell therapy in which a patient's own (autologous) peripheral blood-derived T lymphocytes are collected and then activated or stimulated ex vivo to recognize the tumor-associated antigen mucin 1 (MUC1). After expansion and activation, these cells are reinfused into the patient. The goal is for these engineered or stimulated T-cells to specifically recognize and induce cytotoxicity against tumor cells expressing the aberrant or overexpressed form of MUC1, which is common in various cancers such as ovarian cancer, breast cancer, multiple myeloma, colon cancer, and others. This approach leverages the immune system's ability to target malignant cells while sparing normal tissues. The therapy is being investigated primarily for relapsed/refractory cancers that express high levels of MUC1[3][4][5][6].
