Overview

This autologous cell therapy, developed by the Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology, utilizes muscle-derived stem cells (MDSCs) for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a patient's own skeletal muscle tissue via biopsy, followed by the in vitro expansion of the muscle-derived stem cells. These expanded cells are then injected into the paraurethral tissues or the urethral sphincter area. The mechanism of action relies on the ability of these adult stem cells to integrate into the urethral sphincter complex and differentiate into muscle tissue, thereby regenerating and strengthening the urethral rhabdosphincter. This restoration of muscle function is intended to provide a physiological solution for urinary continence in patients who have failed conservative treatments.
