Overview

Autologous muscle precursor cells are a form of cell therapy in which a patient's own skeletal muscle-derived progenitor or stem cells are harvested (typically via biopsy), expanded ex vivo under GMP conditions, and then injected into target tissues to promote regeneration. The primary mechanism is tissue regeneration through cell replacement and integration into damaged or deficient musculature. This approach is being developed primarily for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), particularly in women. The injected autologous MPCs aim to restore function by integrating into the external urinary sphincter and promoting repair of the sphincteric musculature[1][2][3][4][5]. MUVON Therapeutics AG is one of the main developers advancing this therapy through clinical trials[5].
