A personalized therapeutic vaccine candidate for the treatment of chronic HIV-1 infection. The therapy utilizes a patient's own monocyte-derived myeloid dendritic cells (MD-DCs) which are loaded ex vivo with heat-inactivated autologous HIV-1. By presenting the full complement of the patient's specific viral antigens, the vaccine is designed to stimulate a robust and durable HIV-specific cellular immune response, primarily involving CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes. The goal is to achieve functional control of viral replication, potentially allowing for the discontinuation of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). It has been primarily investigated by the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona in Phase II clinical trials.
