LifeStem's autologous myoblast therapy is an experimental cell-based treatment developed for the management of urinary incontinence in pediatric patients with bladder exstrophy. The procedure involves harvesting skeletal muscle cells (myoblasts) from the patient's own tissue, expanding them in a laboratory setting, and subsequently injecting them transurethrally into the bladder neck or urethral sphincter. The therapeutic goal is to facilitate the regeneration of the sphincter muscle, thereby improving its contractile function and enhancing urinary continence. This approach leverages the myogenic potential of myoblasts to integrate into and strengthen the deficient muscle structures characteristic of bladder exstrophy, providing a regenerative alternative to traditional surgical interventions.
