Autologous Natural Killer Cell Therapy is an adoptive cell therapy being developed by Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The treatment involves harvesting natural killer (NK) cells from the patient's own peripheral blood, which are then processed, expanded, and activated ex vivo using the CliniMACS Plus automated cell separation system and following Miltenyi Biotec guidelines. These activated NK cells are subsequently re-infused into the patient to target and eliminate malignant cells through innate immune mechanisms, such as the release of perforin and granzymes. The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial to determine safety, optimal dosage, and preliminary efficacy in patients with BCLC stage B or C hepatocellular carcinoma.
