Autologous nucleus pulposus cells (aNPC) are a cell therapy product derived from a patient's own intervertebral disc tissue. The treatment involves harvesting nucleus pulposus tissue, typically during a discectomy, isolating and expanding the cells in vitro, and then re-injecting them into the degenerated disc. The goal is to restore the biological function of the disc, promote matrix synthesis, and reduce pain associated with degenerative disc disease (DDD) or disc herniation. This regenerative approach aims to address the underlying cause of disc degeneration by replenishing the specialized cell population responsible for maintaining the disc's extracellular matrix.
