Overview

Autologous olfactory mucosa-derived mesenchymal stem cells (OM-MSCs) are an experimental cell therapy being developed by The Republican Research and Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology for the treatment of chronic airway obstructions. These MSCs are harvested from the patient's own olfactory mucosa, expanded in vitro, and then administered as an adjunct to surgical treatment for laryngeal and tracheal stenosis. The therapy leverages the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells to prevent the recurrence of scar tissue (fibrosis) and promote healthy mucosal repair in the airway. By modulating the local inflammatory environment and inhibiting excessive fibroblastic activity, the treatment aims to maintain airway patency following surgical intervention.
