Overview

Autologous olfactory mucosa mesenchymal stromal cells (OM-MSCs) are a population of multipotent adult stem cells harvested from a patient's own olfactory mucosa. These cells are characterized by their ability to differentiate into various cell types, including neural-like cells, and their secretion of neurotrophic factors and immunomodulatory cytokines. In clinical development by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hu'nan Normal University, OM-MSCs are being evaluated for their potential to treat refractory epilepsy and Parkinson's disease by promoting tissue repair, reducing neuroinflammation, and providing neuroprotection. The autologous nature of the therapy avoids the need for immunosuppression and reduces the risk of graft rejection. These cells are typically administered via intrathecal or intranasal routes to bypass the blood-brain barrier and deliver therapeutic effects directly to the central nervous system.
