Autologous oral mucosa-derived adult fibroblasts, ex vivo expanded, is an autologous cell therapy developed by the Fundación Pública Para La Investigación Biosanitaria De Andalucía Oriental Alejandro Otero (FIBAO). This regenerative medicine product is designed for the treatment of alveolar clefts in patients with cleft lip and palate. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a biopsy of the patient's own oral mucosa, isolating the fibroblasts, and expanding them ex vivo in a controlled laboratory environment. These expanded cells are then transplanted into the alveolar defect, typically alongside a bone graft, where they facilitate tissue repair and bone formation by synthesizing extracellular matrix components and secreting growth factors that promote healing and structural integration.
