Autologous outer root sheath (ORS) hair follicle cell suspension is an autologous cell therapy developed for the treatment of stable vitiligo. The therapeutic process involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor site, typically the scalp, and using enzymatic digestion to isolate a suspension of cells from the outer root sheath. The ORS is a significant reservoir for inactive melanocytes and melanocyte stem cells. This suspension is then transplanted onto vitiligo lesions that have been prepared by suction blistering or dermabrasion. Once transplanted, the melanocyte stem cells proliferate and differentiate into functional melanocytes, leading to repigmentation of the depigmented skin areas.
