Overview

Autologous peripheral blood CD34+ cells are a cell therapy product composed of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) harvested from a patient's own blood, typically following mobilization with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). These cells are enriched for the CD34 surface marker and are utilized for their potent pro-angiogenic and vasculogenic properties. When administered via intramuscular injection into ischemic tissues, these cells promote the formation of new blood vessels by differentiating into endothelial cells and secreting paracrine factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). This therapeutic approach is primarily developed for patients with chronic critical limb ischemia (CLI) and peripheral artery disease (PAD) who are not candidates for standard surgical or endovascular revascularization.
