Autologous peripheral blood-derived CD34+ cells, also known as CLBS119, are a cell therapy product consisting of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells isolated from a patient's own (autologous) peripheral blood. Developed by Caladrius Biosciences, this therapy is being investigated for the repair of lung damage in patients who have suffered severe COVID-19 infection. The mechanism of action involves the regenerative and vascular repair properties of CD34+ cells, which have shown evidence in preclinical and clinical studies to restore microvasculature and promote tissue regeneration in damaged organs. In the context of COVID-19-induced pulmonary damage, CLBS119 aims to regenerate blood vessels damaged by SARS-CoV-2 infection, thereby improving lung function and reducing or eliminating the need for supplemental oxygen[1][3][4][5][6].
