Autologous plasma eye drops are a blood-derived therapeutic developed by the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) for the treatment of severe recalcitrant dry eye syndrome. The therapy involves the collection of the patient's own plasma via plasmapheresis, which is then processed and stored in sealed segments of intravenous tubing. This biologic treatment provides a concentrated source of proteins, growth factors, and other biological mediators similar to those found in natural tears, which work to promote wound healing, reduce ocular surface inflammation, and provide lubrication. It is specifically indicated for patients who have failed conventional treatments such as artificial tears, topical corticosteroids, or cyclosporine.
