Autologous platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation platelet concentrate obtained from a patient's own venous blood through centrifugation without the addition of anticoagulants or bovine thrombin. It forms a natural fibrin matrix that traps platelets, leukocytes, and various growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This matrix acts as a biological scaffold that provides a sustained release of these healing factors over time, promoting angiogenesis and tissue regeneration. In clinical research conducted by the National Children's Medical Center in Uzbekistan, PRF is being evaluated as a surgical adjunct during the primary repair of bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC) in pediatric patients to enhance wound healing and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications such as penopubic fistulas.
