Overview

Autologous platelet-rich fibrin glue (PRFG) is a biologic therapy prepared from a patient's own blood, containing concentrated fibrinogen, factor XIII, thrombin, calcium, platelets, and leukocytes. It is used as a surgical sealant to treat low-output enterocutaneous fistulas (ECFs). When applied to the fistula tract, it forms a coagulum that mechanically seals the tract and releases growth factors from platelets to promote tissue healing and fistula closure. Jinling Hospital in China has led multi-center clinical trials evaluating its efficacy compared to commercial porcine-derived fibrin glue and standard drainage cessation.
