Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative medicine therapy derived from a patient's own blood. It is created by taking a blood sample from the patient and processing it to concentrate platelets in plasma. The resulting solution contains 5-10 times the normal concentration of platelets and growth factors that stimulate healing. PRP works by harnessing and amplifying the natural growth factors found in platelets to accelerate tissue regeneration and repair damaged tissue. These growth factors include platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and adhesive proteins like fibrin, fibronectin, and vitronectin. When injected into injured or diseased areas, PRP can stimulate cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen formation to enhance the body's natural healing process.
