Overview

This investigational combination therapy, developed by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, pairs autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (SWT) to treat vasculogenic erectile dysfunction. PRP is a biologic derived from the patient's own blood, concentrated to provide a high density of growth factors such as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), which are injected into the corpus cavernosum to stimulate tissue repair and angiogenesis. The shockwave component provides mechanical triggers that further enhance neovascularization and endothelial function. This synergistic approach is currently being evaluated in clinical trials (COCKTAIL and COCKTAIL-DM) for men with mild to moderate ED, including those with diabetes-related microvascular pathology.
