Overview

Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) dressing is a biological therapy derived from a patient's own peripheral blood, processed via centrifugation to achieve a high concentration of platelets. This concentrated plasma is applied topically to chronic, non-healing wounds to facilitate the delivery of a potent cocktail of endogenous growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors stimulate essential regenerative processes such as angiogenesis, fibroblast proliferation, and collagen synthesis. Multan Medical and Dental College is investigating this intervention in a randomized controlled trial for the treatment of various chronic cutaneous ulcers, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure ulcers, aiming to demonstrate superior healing rates compared to standard saline dressings.
