**Autologous platelet-rich plasma gel** is a patient-specific, topical blood-derived biologic preparation used as a wound dressing. It is produced from the patient's own blood to concentrate platelets and is applied in gel form to clean, non-healing diabetic foot ulcers. Platelet activation releases a heterogeneous mixture of growth factors, chemokines, cytokines, and extracellular-matrix-associated mediators that can support hemostasis, angiogenesis, fibroblast activity, granulation tissue formation, re-epithelialization, and tissue repair. Mansoura University evaluated this intervention against normal-saline dressing in a randomized controlled trial of diabetic foot ulcers.
