Autologous pooled platelet concentrate is an investigational blood-derived biologic consisting of a patient's own platelets, collected and pooled for re-administration. Developed by the Medizinische Universität Graz, it is being studied in Phase 2 clinical trials as a reversal strategy for dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), specifically to counteract the effects of clopidogrel (a P2Y12 inhibitor) and aspirin (a COX-1 inhibitor). By transfusing functional, uninhibited autologous platelets, the product aims to restore ADP- and arachidonic acid-induced platelet aggregation, potentially providing a method to manage bleeding risks or prepare patients for urgent surgery while on antiplatelet medication.
