Autologous progenitor expansion -T, also known as RAK cells (Receptor-Activated Killer cells), is an autologous cell therapy developed by Shanghai Pudong Hospital for the treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors. The therapy involves the expansion of a patient's own progenitor cells into 'bi-dimensional specific' T cells, which are then administered locally via a percutaneous Ommaya capsule directly into the tumor cavity or the cerebrospinal fluid. This localized delivery method is designed to bypass the blood-brain barrier and concentrate the therapeutic effect within the central nervous system. In clinical trials, the cells are administered weekly, often in conjunction with interleukin-2 (IL-2) to support their survival and activity, and may be combined with intrathecal pemetrexed for patients with brain or meningeal metastases from solid tumors.
