Overview

Autologous regenerative fibroblasts (ARFs) are an experimental cell therapy developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University for the treatment of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. The therapy involves harvesting fibroblasts from a patient's own skin biopsy, expanding them ex vivo, and then administering them via intralesional or intravenous injection. The mechanism of action is primarily paracrine-mediated; the transplanted fibroblasts secrete a variety of pro-osteogenic growth factors and cytokines, including bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). these factors stimulate the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts, enhance bone mineral density, and promote angiogenesis at fracture sites, thereby accelerating bone repair and improving overall bone quality in patients with metabolic bone disease.
