Overview

Autologous regulatory T-lymphocytes (Tregs) are an investigational cell therapy being developed by Xuzhou Medical University for the treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Tregs are a specialized subset of T cells characterized by the expression of CD4, CD25, and the transcription factor FoxP3, playing a crucial role in maintaining immune tolerance and preventing autoimmunity. In this therapeutic approach, a patient's own Tregs are isolated, expanded ex vivo, and re-infused to suppress the activation and proliferation of donor-derived effector T cells that attack the recipient's tissues. This modulation of the immune environment aims to reduce the clinical severity of GVHD while ideally preserving the beneficial graft-versus-leukemia effect. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2a clinical trials to assess safety and efficacy across various dose levels.
