Overview

Autologous reparative skin fibroblasts are living cells isolated from a patient's own (autologous) skin tissue, expanded in vitro, and then re-injected or transplanted into the same patient to repair or rejuvenate the skin. The process typically involves harvesting a small piece of skin (commonly from behind the ear), isolating and culturing dermal fibroblasts under sterile conditions, expanding them to sufficient numbers, and then injecting them into targeted areas of the dermis. These cells synthesize collagen and other extracellular matrix proteins that help restore dermal structure, fill wrinkles or scars, improve elasticity, and promote overall tissue regeneration. Because they are autologous (from the same individual), there is minimal risk of immune rejection. This therapy is used for cosmetic indications such as wrinkle reduction, scar repair (including acne scars), improvement of fine lines and stretch marks, as well as for certain dermatological conditions requiring soft tissue augmentation[2][3][8][10]. In some countries/regions (e.g., Japan), this approach has been approved under regenerative medicine regulations for aesthetic use; in others it may be available through clinical trials or specialized clinics.
