Overview

Autologous skeletal muscle-derived cells on microcarriers is an investigational regenerative cell therapy developed by University College London through the AMELIE project for faecal incontinence, particularly following obstetric anal sphincter injury. The product consists of skeletal muscle-derived cells harvested from the individual patient, expanded ex vivo, attached to biodegradable implantable microcarriers, and injected into the damaged external anal sphincter. The microcarriers are intended to support cell delivery, survival, retention, engraftment, and subsequent skeletal-muscle regeneration to improve sphincter function and continence.
