Overview

This autologous tissue-engineered skin substitute is an Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) developed by the Andalusian Network for Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (RADTTA). It consists of a bilayered structure: a dermal layer composed of autologous fibroblasts embedded in a unique fibrin-agarose biomatrix, and an epidermal layer of autologous keratinocytes. The fibrin-agarose matrix provides enhanced mechanical stability and a suitable microenvironment for cell growth and differentiation compared to traditional fibrin-only scaffolds. It is primarily indicated for the reconstruction of skin defects, such as those following Mohs micrographic surgery for basal cell carcinoma or severe burns, where it promotes wound healing and tissue regeneration by providing a functional skin equivalent that integrates with the patient's own tissue.
