Overview

Autologous specific TCL cells refer to a form of cell therapy in which T-cell lymphocytes (TCL) are isolated from a patient, expanded or modified ex vivo to specifically recognize and target tumor antigens or disease-associated antigens, and then reinfused into the same patient. This approach is a type of adoptive T-cell therapy that leverages the patient's own immune system for targeted immunotherapy. The process typically involves selecting and expanding tumor antigen-specific T cells (such as cytotoxic T lymphocytes, CTLs), which can be naturally occurring or genetically engineered (e.g., via TCR-T or CAR-T technologies). These therapies are being investigated for various cancers—including solid tumors and hematological malignancies—and chronic viral infections such as hepatitis B. The mechanism of action is based on the recognition of disease-specific antigens by the infused autologous T cells, leading to targeted cytotoxicity against diseased cells while minimizing off-target effects[6][7]. Clinical studies in China have explored their use in diseases like chronic hepatitis B and non-small cell lung cancer[1][7].
