Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation and Immunomodulation is a cell therapy approach developed by Stem Cells Arabia for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The procedure involves the interventional radiology-mediated transplantation of purified, autologous CD34+ and CD133+ stem cells directly into the pancreatic artery and capillaries. This is combined with the intravenous injection of autologous, immunomodulated mononuclear cells. The dual-action mechanism aims to promote the regeneration of lost pancreatic beta-cell populations while simultaneously halting the autoimmune destruction of these cells by modulating the patient's immune system. This approach is intended to restore endogenous insulin production and improve glycemic control in patients with established T1DM.
