Thawed SVF refers to the cryopreserved and subsequently thawed autologous stromal vascular fraction (SVF) derived from adipose tissue. SVF is a heterogeneous cell population obtained through the enzymatic or mechanical dissociation of lipoaspirate, containing adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, pericytes, and immune cells. Developed and investigated by Assistance Publique Hopitaux De Marseille, this therapy is specifically utilized for treating refractory ano-perineal fistulas in patients with Crohn's disease (notably in the ADICROHN-3 study). The therapeutic efficacy is driven by the regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of the mesenchymal progenitors, which promote angiogenesis and tissue repair while dampening local inflammation. The use of a thawed preparation allows for multiple therapeutic applications from a single fat harvest, facilitating repeated dosing in patients who do not respond to an initial injection.
