Overview

Autologous stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of adipose tissue is an investigational cell-based biologic therapy developed by Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM). It consists of a heterogeneous mixture of cells obtained from a patient's own adipose tissue via lipoaspiration followed by enzymatic digestion and centrifugation. This mixture is enriched with mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, pericytes, and various immune cells. The therapy exerts its therapeutic effects through paracrine signaling and direct cell-to-cell interactions that promote angiogenesis, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue regeneration. It is primarily being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of chronic, refractory diabetic foot ulcers, as well as for hand disability and digital ulcers in systemic sclerosis and vocal fold scarring.
