Autologous tenocyte therapy, branded as Ortho-ATI, is a cell-based biologic therapy developed by Orthocell for the treatment of chronic, treatment-resistant tendon injuries. The procedure involves a two-stage process: first, a biopsy of healthy tendon tissue (typically from the patella) is harvested from the patient; second, the tenocytes (tendon-derived cells) are isolated and expanded in a GMP-certified laboratory over 4–6 weeks. The expanded autologous cells are then injected back into the patient's damaged tendon under ultrasound guidance. The therapeutic goal is to restore the structural integrity and function of the degenerated tendon by stimulating the production of new collagen and extracellular matrix. It is primarily indicated for lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) and other forms of tendinopathy.
