Overview

This is an investigational autologous cellular immunotherapy consisting of patient-specific dendritic cells loaded with antigens derived from the patient's own irradiated tumor cells. Developed initially at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and later advanced by AIVITA Biomedical, the vaccine specifically targets tumor-initiating cells (cancer stem cells) to stimulate a T-cell mediated immune response against metastatic melanoma. The manufacturing process involves establishing a short-term cell line from a patient's tumor biopsy to enrich for tumor-associated antigens, which are then pulsed onto autologous monocyte-derived dendritic cells. The final product is administered subcutaneously alongside GM-CSF (sargramostim) as an immune adjuvant to enhance the activation and recruitment of antigen-presenting cells.
