Overview

This investigational autologous tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy is a personalized cellular immunotherapy developed by Professor Inge Marie Svane and the National Center for Cancer Immune Therapy (CCIT-DK) at Copenhagen University Hospital, Herlev. The treatment process involves surgically removing a portion of the patient's tumor to extract naturally occurring T cells that have already recognized and infiltrated the malignancy. These TILs are expanded to billions of cells ex vivo using high-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2). Following a lymphodepleting conditioning regimen (typically cyclophosphamide and fludarabine), the expanded TILs are reinfused into the patient. This polyclonal T-cell product is designed to recognize a diverse array of patient-specific neoantigens and tumor-associated antigens. In clinical trials, this therapy is being evaluated in a 'basket' trial format for various metastatic solid tumors, often in combination with checkpoint inhibitors like ipilimumab and nivolumab to enhance T-cell recruitment and effector function.
