This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational cell-based immunotherapy developed by Clinica Universidad de Navarra and the Universidad de Navarra. It is specifically designed for patients with colorectal carcinoma who have undergone complete resection of liver metastases. The vaccine is produced by loading a patient's own dendritic cells with autologous tumor lysate antigens. The tumor lysate is prepared through freeze/thaw cycles and heating at 90°C to favor protein aggregation, which is intended to enhance the immunogenicity of the antigens. The primary mechanism of action is to stimulate a robust, patient-specific immune response against tumor antigens to prevent disease relapse. In a randomized Phase II clinical trial (NCT01348256), the vaccine showed encouraging results with improved disease-free survival compared to observation, although the study was curtailed early due to budgetary restrictions.
