Overview

This investigational autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine is being developed by Wuerzburg University Hospital for the treatment of relapsed high-grade gliomas in pediatric and adolescent patients. The therapy is produced by isolating a patient's own dendritic cells and loading them with a lysate derived from their own tumor tissue, which contains a broad array of tumor-associated antigens. These 'primed' dendritic cells are then re-administered to the patient via intradermal injection to stimulate a targeted T-cell-mediated immune response against the glioma. In clinical trials, this vaccine is often administered as part of a multimodal regimen that includes metronomic cyclophosphamide to deplete regulatory T cells and the checkpoint inhibitors Nivolumab and Ipilimumab to further enhance the anti-tumor immune activity.
