Overview

Autologous tumor lysate-pulsed dendritic cells are a form of personalized immunotherapy in which a patient's own dendritic cells are harvested and then loaded (pulsed) ex vivo with antigens derived from the patient’s own tumor tissue (tumor lysate). These antigen-loaded dendritic cells are then re-administered to the patient as a vaccine. The goal is to stimulate the patient’s immune system—particularly T-cell responses—against a broad array of antigens present in their specific cancer, including potential neoantigens unique to their tumor. This approach has been studied primarily in high-grade gliomas such as glioblastoma, but also in other solid tumors like gastric and colorectal cancers. Clinical trials have demonstrated that this therapy is generally well-tolerated and may improve overall survival when added to standard treatments for glioblastoma[1][4][6]. The most widely referenced product using this approach is DCVax-L.
