Overview

This is an experimental autologous dendritic cell vaccine transfected with amplified tumor mRNA, developed for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer. The therapy involves isolating a patient's own monocyte-derived dendritic cells and transfecting them with total tumor RNA amplified from a biopsy of the patient's tumor. This approach is designed to present a broad spectrum of tumor-associated antigens to the immune system, thereby stimulating a polyclonal cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response and minimizing the risk of tumor escape. The vaccine was investigated in a Phase I safety and feasibility study (NCT00006430) supported by the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR).
