Overview

Autologous umbilical cord plasma refers to the plasma component separated from an individual's own (autologous) umbilical cord blood, typically collected at birth and cryopreserved for potential future therapeutic use. Unlike allogeneic products, it is derived from and used for the same individual. The plasma contains a rich mixture of growth factors, cytokines, immune modulators, and nutrients but does not contain cells such as hematopoietic stem cells or mesenchymal stem cells (which are found in other fractions of cord blood). Mechanistically, autologous umbilical cord plasma is believed to promote tissue repair and regeneration by providing bioactive molecules that stimulate cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), immunomodulation, and anti-inflammatory effects. It has been explored as an adjunct in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to support engraftment and recovery[2][4]. Clinical research also investigates its use in regenerative medicine applications such as treatment of neurological disorders (e.g., cerebral palsy[2], autism spectrum disorder[2]), rare diseases[2], tissue repair after injury or surgery[4], wound healing[4], reproductive medicine (e.g., thin endometrium)[6], among others. The product is not a conventional pharmaceutical drug but rather a biologically derived therapy prepared under strict clinical protocols; its safety profile benefits from being autologous—minimizing risks of immune rejection or transmission of infectious agents.
