Overview

Autologous urine-derived stem cell-derived mitochondria is an experimental organelle-based therapy involving the transplantation of functional mitochondria extracted from a patient's own urine-derived stem cells (USCs). USCs are a unique population of mesenchymal-like stem cells that can be isolated non-invasively from urine. The therapy is designed to treat conditions associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and impaired cellular bioenergetics. By delivering healthy, autologous mitochondria directly to the site of tissue injury—such as the bladder wall in patients with interstitial cystitis—the treatment aims to restore ATP production, reduce apoptosis, and alleviate inflammation. This approach leverages the regenerative potential of mitochondria without the ethical or immunological concerns associated with embryonic or allogeneic cell sources.
